ACIGOL
The most ancient civilization that was discovered at Acigol, which is located on Aksaray – Nevsehir Road at a distance of 20 km to Nevsehir, goes back to the 7th Century BC. Topada, close to Agilli Village, contains the stone monuments with Hittite hieroglyphs written on them belonging to the late Hittite period and telling about the political status of the region as well as providing information as to the achievements of the leaders.
Another characteristic of Acigol is the underground settlement area located at the residential center. This has not been completely cleaned yet. Tatlarin district, which is located 10 km to the North of Acigol district, is one of the most interesting places in Cappadocia with its underground city and churches as well as its building architecture.
The underground city that takes place at the hill named as the “Castle (Kale)” by the people of Tatlarin, was discovered for the first time the year 1975 and it has been opened to the visitors since 1991. At present its two layers can be visited.
Tatlarin Church, which is located in the same area, has two main corridors and two Apsides with gable arched roof however, its narthex has been broken down. The scenes on the frescos, which have been preserved very well, have been separated from each other by strips. Dark gray color was used on the floor, whereas purple, mustard and red colors were used in the depiction.
